Free pattern: Marvelous Mittens

Posted by yarnberry on October 1, 2006

My first pattern is up! I’m still fixing up the the html and the photos, and doing a tiny bit of tweaking on the pattern itself. Check it out here: Marvelous Mittens. If you try the pattern I’d love to hear about it.

Lacy ruffle scarf – Part 2

Posted by yarnberry on September 9, 2006

I’ve finished working this scarf in the Smooth and Young Touch yarns, now I’m trying it again with Sirdar Country Style DK and Madil Eden Print yarns. The second one is 100% bamboo and has a beautiful silky feel to it.

I’ve made some adjustments to the first part of the pattern (working 11 dc per row for the first repeat of the pattern, so that the ends will be flat instead of curved), and I’m trying it with 9 ch in the first loop.

Here is the rest of the pattern:

(still in the “Make 2” section)
ch 1, turn, and sc back across the straight side of the work (3 sc in each 9-ch loop, 2 sc in the first dc of each row, 1 sc in the last row of each repeat)
Change to contrasting yarn.
ch 3, turn
Crossed stitch (sk st, dc in next st, working behind dc, dc in previous st) across
Tie off(after the “Make 2” section)
Line up the two pieces, straight sides together, with repeats slightly staggered (the beginning of one repeat should be lined up with the 9-ch space of the other piece)
sl st into sc of the last row of one repeat
ch 1, 2 sc up side of the Crossed Stitch
3 sc into corner to turn
sc along the top of the piece into top of the Crossed Stitch row
At end of the row, 3 sc into the corner to turn, 2 sc into side of the Crossed Stitch
sl st into sc of the last row of the other piece, tie off
Weave in ends

I may still add some embellishment along the outside of the repeats. I haven’t decided yet. Then I need to take some photos of the two scarves I’ve made in this pattern, and write it up properly as a pattern instruction page.

Lacy ruffle scarf – Part 1

Posted by yarnberry on September 2, 2006

This is the first part of a pattern for a scarf I’m working on right now, using King Cole Smooth double-knitting yarn and a size H (5mm) crochet hook.

First repeat:

  • Ch 8 and sl st to make a loop
  • Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), then 8 dc into loop, then turn — 9 dc
  • Rnd 2: Ch 4 (counts as first dc), sk first dc, (dc, ch 1) into next 7 dc and turning ch of previous round — 9 dc
  • Rnd 3: Ch 5 (counts as first dc), sk first dc, (dc, ch 2) into next 7 dc and turning ch of previous round — 9 dc
  • Rnd 4: Ch 6 (counts as first dc), sk first dc, (dc, ch 3) into next 7 dc and turning ch of previous round — 9 dc
  • Rnd 5: Scallop edging: into each ch-3 space, sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc — 8 scallops
  • Repeat 11 times

For repeats:

  • Ch 8 and sl st to dc of previous repeat to make a loop, then continue as above (dc of last scallop of Rnd 5)
  • At the end of Rnd 2 and Rnd 4, sl st to dc of previous repeat (Rnd 2 into second last scallop of Rnd 5, Rnd 4 into third last scallop of Rnd 5)

Make 2.
